Quick Little Recipe - A Kitchen Post

This blog will not be ones of recipes, however I do so love that sort of thing!  This isn't even a recipe, really - Just a Make-At-Home Taco Seasoning.  I like this so much that sometimes I've even given it as a gift:

You will need:

1/4 c. instant minced onion
2 T salt
3 T chili powder
1 T cornstarch
1 T dried minced garlic
1 T crushed hot pepper flakes
2 T cumin
2 t oregano, crushed finely

Just mix!  I substitute 2 T of this mixture for a packet of taco seasoning.  I made this batch today & it yields a little over 14 T, so a good 7 "packets" for taco seasoning.

Enjoy!

Lapbooking - A Homeschooling Post

Lapbooking
Love it or Loathe it?

One of my homeschooling friends introduced me to lapbooks.  We have only done a few.  I think they are a great way to showcase a theme unit or study.
http://www.homeschoolshare.com/Lapbooks_at_HSS.php  Homeschoolshare is a great resource for lapbooking.  However, I find some of their suggestions to be more on the "busy work"/unnecessary line of things, so we have chosen to combine some of what we've found on there with some of our own things.

Micah did this lapbook on volcanoes last year, when he was in 3rd grade.

We studied volcanoes at length, (his idea).  We did quite a few experiments, so we included those in his lapbook.  We also included some items that we got at the Rock & Art Shop in Bangor, including a piece of the mantle.  Even now, Micah likes to look at this and re-acquaint himself about volcanoes.

Noelle did this lapbook on Indonesia when she was in 4th grade.  It was a combined AWANA & school project.  She learned & recorded facts about Indonesia.  She made an Indonesian recipe.  She also highlighted some missionaries who live in Indonesia.

Lapbooks are a sort-of visual report.  You can make them as many or as few flaps as you'd like.  They are made out of file folders.  You can customize the flaps to be big or small.  I like to add photos too.  If you are a homeschooler, I definitely suggest at least trying a lapbook at some point!
